One of the nation’s greatest tragedies could actually become one of its greatest assets. However, it will be very important to figure out who is going to pay for what. Now, most American taxpayers of the last few years have been indirectly (a few directly) forced to pay for a substantial part of the fixes being made to the parts of the gulf coastline which were damaged by Hurricane Katrina, costs which have been in the form of taxes and higher insurance rates. But why should those who are not a direct part of those communities have to pay for the wanted local recovery? And why is the city of New Orleans being treated as the top focus in the overall recovery of the region? Well, many of the elected officials want to be seen as being generous and caring but they are using the taxpayer’s money.
